Energy healing is very popular these days, and often used when other methods have failed. However, you have to be careful here. Although energy healing is ancient and authentic (think of native tribes), there are of course a lot of charlatans around too. And not to put too fine a point on it – but when it’s your time to go, it’s time. So don’t fall for salespeople who promise to cure everything, when sometimes the best case is just to accept what is.
So what is energy healing? In a nutshell, it’s a (can be) complimentary style of medicine as opposed to treating ‘organs with drugs’, although in some cases, that’s necessary. But for minor ailments or to help other medicines, it can be worth trying. It basically takes the more eastern philosophy in India and China that we are water, space, fire, earth and metal elements, and we have chakras (energy centres that spin like wheels, although don’t ask your doctors, as they won’t find them on x-rays). The people that discovered all of this were the same sages that found out how the planets rotate the sun. So far from being bunkum, they likely knew more than us, and also kept in touch with the wisdom of the natural world, which a lot of western orthodox medicine has forgotten to do.
So for instance, your feet are kind of an exact map of your body, according to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics found on cave walls. If you press certain meridian points on the feet, this disperses calcium crystals that build up as uric acid, which correspond to certain organs. Reflexology does have some contraindications (it can move tumours) but in most cases, it’s safe. So say you have congestion in your knee – by dispersing the crystals, you then drink some water and the diluted crystals pass out of your body and after a mini ‘healing crisis’ (feeling a little worse beforehand as your body does a mini detox), in many cases you can solve the problem.
Many ‘dinosaur doctors’ dismiss energy healing, without knowing what they are talking about. They are right to want things regulated, but the fact is that proper qualified acupuncturists train for several years, and there are many double-blind trials (even published in The Lancet) that say it works for various conditions, especially to heal pain.
German Reiki healer Torsten A Lange had an interesting start to discovering his vocation. A former successful businessman, he had a business on London’s Regent Street, but then his whole life collapsed when the business went under and he lost everything overnight, as the personal guarantor. Temporarily homeless, he used Reiki to heal his life, and was so impressed, he changed course and now teaches others how to perform Reiki too.

Energy Healing for Animals
If you are interested in Reiki to help humans, why not use it to help animal friends too? Animals (mostly) respond better, as they don’t have religious hang-ups and ‘it’s all a load of rubbish’ mentality that some two-legged people do! Animals communicate by feeling (a few don’t like it, but will let you know).
The world leader in animal Reiki is Kathleen Prasad. Her book Animal Reiki is the gold standard book to read. Her 21-Day Animal Reiki Challenge helps you discover untapped potential that animals can awaken within you, to open your heart and mind to loving-kindness, extraordinary bliss and a balanced life. What About Spiritual Healing?
This is when healers stand over you (they usually don’t even touch you) to heal you spiritually. Usually found in spiritualist churches, most work by donation only and hopefully do no harm. The Healing Trust has more on this, where you can find a healer (they also offer distant healing for free or by donation) and services to help heal animals (again you can ask a request).
There has been plenty of research on energetic healing for animals, and of course in this case, there is no placebo effect, as dogs don’t read newspapers! We all know that stroking a pet can heal, but also for the animal (not so much hugging, most animals don’t like it). One study found beneficial brain changes when giving energy healing to pets, and one healer did her healing experiments at an RSPCA cat rescue centre, and found that the cats were a lot more chilled out 2.5 hours after the sessions. This is not just good for health, but happy relaxed animals are more likely to be adopted by families looking for an easygoing animal friend. Find out more at Healing Animals Organisation (that has over 700 trained graduates nationwide, including medical vets).
One traumatised pony would panic if anyone approached, he was terrified of humans. The healer would see that the pony on receiving healing, would press his head into her hands, take her finger gently in his lips, closed his eyes and remained there for over 20 minutes. Combined with behaviour modification, he became a happy and inquisitive horse!
Read Spiritual Healing for Hospitals & Clinics, by Sandy Edwards, who was approached by a consultant gastroenterologist at a city hospital, to offer healing to his patients, as a volunteer. Working alongside conventional medical treatment, she documented the effects and the doctor was surprised at the positive outcome which led to a national grant with University of Birmingham, creating the largest clinical research trial of spiritual healing worldwide.
