Fairy cakes are very popular in England, especially for quick nibbles at dinner parties. Less fattening than a big slice of cake (!), here are some nice plant-based recipes to enjoy. These pretty vegan fairy cakes with sprinkles (The Veg Space) are made with vegan palm-oil-free butter. These small sponge cakes are smaller than cupcakes, with a thin layer of icing/frosting and top with homemade sprinkles dyed with beetroot, carrot, red cabbage, baby spinach or turmeric, depending on the colours preferred.
Choose palm-oil-free vegan butter, if used. Keep these cakes away from pets due to toxic ingredients like fresh dough, chocolate, dried fruits, nuts and xylitol (if used, just a few dropped crumbs can be lethal).
These Flower Fairy Cupcakes (Wallflower Kitchen) are ‘England’s answer to cupcakes. These contain floral flavours of rose water, culinary lavender, violet crystals and fresh edible flowers, to keep the fairies happy!
