The silver used is stamped 925, which is basically at least 92.5% of metal is silver (some copper is usually added to strengthen a very soft metal).

Conventional jewellery tends to be from mined metals, and these are often exploded with dynamite, which harms the local nature and wildlife.
Diamonds in particular can be mined (blood diamonds that fund civil war are less sold now, as jewellers are aware of concerns).
