activated charcoal cleansing bar

Blemished skin is common in teenagers and people with oily skin, but using harsh products usually does more harm than good. Just keep skin clean, and most of the time hormonal acne clears up on its own, whether from teenage hormones or pregnancy.

This handmade charcoal soap is vegan, free from palm oil and sold in zero waste packaging. Handmade in Yorkshire, keep on a slatted soap dish, to drain away water, when not in use. Contains olive and coconut oil and shea butter.

Avoid essential oils for pregnancy/nursing and affected medical conditions. Avoid shea butter for latex allergies. Keep these products away from babies and pets due to essential oils (and cocoa butter/zinc in the case of animal friends).

Acne is simply when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. And this in time can lead to pimples, blackheads or more severe cysts. Genetics sometimes plays a role. more common is foods high in sugar and dairy, which often can trigger acne in some people

Let Dr Pimple Popper (a dermatologist) show you the safe way to pop a pimple, if you just have to! Doing it the wrong way could make things worse, and cause lifelong scarring.

Preventive Measures for Acne-Prone Skin

charcoal tea tree face mask

  • Cleanse skin thoroughly using a good charcoal-based soap and use charcoal oil-absorbing face mask once or twice a week.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat plant-based foods.
  • Keep relaxed (meditation, yoga, prayer, walking, swimming) and up your exercise to both strengthen immunity and stop obsessing about acne that usually will go in time on its own.

Most Miracles Cures Don’t Work!

Like any kind of holistic medicine, be careful of natural ‘miracle cures’. Most of them don’t work and some could do more harm than good:

  1. Aloe vera won’t harm, but it likely won’t help other.
  2. Apple cider vinegar is way too harsh for skin, as is witch-hazel.
  3. Green tea won’t work either.
  4. Tea tree oil is (on its own) is too harsh for skin’s natural PH
  5. Turmeric won’t work and may stain your skin

Look in health stores for Oliva soap. This is a big chunky bar of soap made only with olive oil, salt and water. It’s not pretty (and dirt cheap) but it works a treat, many people with severe skin problems find this helps.
