It’s wonderful that there are so many plant-based recipe books around. But not everyone wants spicy falafel for dinner (note to pubs and restaurants), many prefer good British grub! Here are a few homegrown recipe books that focus on the comfort food that you likely grew up on. Many replicate meats, so keep away from pets. Great British Vegan is by popular blogger Aimee Ryan. Here she veganizes all the traditional favourites, from Sunday Roast to Afternoon Tea. Other recipes include:

- Shepherd’s Pie
- Bangers & Mash
- Yorkshire Puddings
- Beer-Battered (to) Fish & Chips
- Sausage Rolls
- Eton Mess
- Sticky Toffee Pudding
- Welsh Rarebit (cheese on toast)
- Scottish shortbread
Vegan North is a fab indie book, celebrating both the recipes and brands in northern England, where there is a very strong vegan movement. It celebrates food from Sheffield to Liverpool and from Manchester to Newcastle. Find recipes and stories of restaurants, cafes, small producers and bars, and meet the pioneer alternative brands of vegan meats and cheeses, and even a vegan diner. You can buy this book direct from Henderson’s Relish (a vegan Worcestershire sauce alternative from Sheffield, which is featured in the book). And so as no to be left out, there is also Vegan South!
Happy Beans is a book by a Welsh farmer. Jane Reynolds offers over 40 hearty recipes for all meals, using innovative ingredients and methods, with traditional dishes. Recipes include Nettle Soup and Lemon Lime Drizzle Cake.
Peace & Parsnips has over 200 recipes by a former London chef, who now lives in Wales. Recipes include:
