The recent war in Ukraine has highlighted not just the awful cruelty to other species, but also the humanity of most humans, with huge efforts being made to help the forgotten non-human victims of war. Often the issue is money, but other times simply it’s because a country is at war (sometimes food in shelters cannot be cooked, as this would alert locations that could be bombed). Already many shelters and sanctuaries have been bombed, with both animals and their carers being killed. It’s heartbreaking beyond belief. Also see how to help create world peace.
Good Newspaper has a fantastic post on how to help the people and animals of Ukraine, including links to charities where you can donate direct to help shelters already under strain (heartwarmingly, many neighbouring countries are offering to house people with pets, who are fleeing the border).
- Harmony Fund is a little charity that is presently doing lots of great work in Ukraine. Buy this beautiful unframed print from Red and Howling, and donations help the charity.
