IPL hair removal: what is it and how does it work?

IPL hair removal is a fairly modern invention, that is basically a way for people to remove body hair at home, without having to pay a fortune for laser hair removal in a salon. Of course you could also use alternative methods like waxing that last for weeks. But that’s best done in a salon.

IPL is used mostly for people with stubborn hair. The device is expensive (around £300). But as it removes hair in weeks (and gradually weakens the root), it can save a fortune on regular trips to the salon for laser or electrolysis (which could run into thousands of pounds over several years).

Skin should be protected from the sun after use (wash off natural sunscreens before letting pets kiss you, due to most containing zinc oxide). 

Do not use this device near children or pets.

Who should not use IPL hair removal?

Although safe for most people, there are quite a few contraindications, as with any similar kind of device. IPL hair removal devices should not be used for:

  • Shave and dry targeted areas
  • Put on the safety goggles
  • Power the device, then press to the skin
  • Treat sensitive areas (bikini line, inner thighs, buttocks) at lowest power level

How long to see results?
