More Eco-Friendly Ways of Hanging Pictures

Hanging pictures is something that most people do to make a home look nice, whether it’s hanging a piece of art of photos. The ‘golden rule’ of hanging a photo is for the centre to be at 57 inches (this is use in most museums and art galleries, reflecting standard eye-level of most people). This can change if you’re tall or small!

If concerned about drilling holes through electrics, get someone else to do this for you. Modern walls are not strong (usually plasterboard) andcan usually cope with a few small screws or nails, as long as there are no electrics or water pipes behind. Heavy pictures benefit from a backing board to fix to wall studs.

It’s not good to hang pictures outside (damp and evaporation can seep indoors). Don’t hang pictures in direct sun (they will fade), above heat sources like radiators (will damage) nor hang heavy pictures or mirrors (they could fall and break).

Picture Hooks of quality are made from hardened tempered steel and the hooks are sturdy too, in a different league to B & Q fodder. Sold in blister packs, and will never bend.

Picture Frames (made from recycled materials)

elephant dung photo frames

If you don’t already own picture frames, then look for ones made from recycled materials. You may find some good ones in antique shops or architectural salvage yards. Or if not, you can find ones online made from recycled wood and other materials.

This elephant dung photo frame is made from a blend of recycled paper and dung from wild elephants. Paying local villagers to collect the dung helps them see elephants as friends (rather than harmful through eating crops). So purchase helps save elephant lives.

This reclaimed timber photo frame saves trees! You can also find picture frames made from recycled newspaper. Colours and patterns vary, but they are free from glass or plastic, with no fiddly hooks, just slip the photo through the discrete slot.

I am going to listen to the wind and see what it tells me, or see if it tells me anything at all. I will follow the songlines and see what they sing to me. And I might bring a harvest of fresh tales, which I can scatter like apple seeds across this tired and angry land.
