Booja Booja oaty chocolate crumble

This oaty chocolate crumble recipe (Waitrose) is super-simple to make, and makes use of Booja Booja’s vegan luxury ice-cream (expensive, but it’s a treat!) Find it in health stores (made in Norfolk).

Nothing fake involved here. Just mix oil, coconut sugar, maple syrup and cocoa powder with a little water, then simmer and add the porridge oats (off the heat). Add some chopped vegan chocolate and hazelnuts, then bake for 20 minutes and cool. Serve with ice-cream!

Oats are really good for your heart, as they have soluble fibre, so kind of ‘soak up’ bad cholesterol, to get it out of your system. That’s why homemade porridge is a good breakfast (proper porridge, not microwave sachets).

To look for a healthy cereal, the (per 100g) nutrition label should really be more than 5g of fibre and less than 5g of sugar (in the carbs section). If you do this, one of the few cereals to qualify is porridge! You don’t even want to look up the nutrition on ‘children’s sugary cereals’. It would be better to have a large slice of cake for breakfast!
