NEMI Teas (also sold at Green Tulip is a London social enterprise that not only sells organic Fair Trade teas in zero waste packaging, but also gives jobs to refugees, so they can be financially independent, after arriving in England. The company also offers wholesale orders for shops, cafes and restaurants.

Avoid caffeine for pregnancy/nursing and affected medical conditions. Although most caffeine is removed once bags are brewed, some experts say not to compost tea bags or coffee grounds, due to caffeine affecting compost bin creatures. So just bin these bags (made from sugar-cane and bound with ultra-sound instead of glue). And they will naturally break down, as these are plastic-free.

Most teas are packed in plastic, which means that when you pour hot water over the tea bags, you’re literally drinking microplastics. Fair Trade tea is also important, as tea plantation workers often live in some of the poorest countries on earth. And tea leaves are very absorbent, so choosing organic not only is good for you and the planet, but the tea plantation pickers (they don’t therefore have to wear protective clothing, in very hot climates).

The company was founded, after seeing that there were many refugees in England who had a wealth of knowledge and spoke perfect English, but had difficulty finding work, due to lack of experience.

  • English Breakfast (classic golden tea, with a malted flavour)
  • Earl Grey (smoky Assam with bergamot and cornflower petals)
  • Spicy Chai (cardamom, ginger, peppercorn, cloves and cinnamon).
  • Green Tea (steamed tea from Southern Indian, with a mild taste)
  • Peppermint or Lemongrass Ginger (herbal teas)
