Seasalt is a Cornish fashion company that (mostly) makes organic cotton clothing (do check, as a few coats and shoes are made from leather, so avoid). However, they are one of the few companies that make beautiful organic cotton dresses, which are not just lovely to look at, but lets your skin breathe on summer days, and good for the planet too. Also sold in Marks & Spencers, designs vary according to season, so here’s a quick lookbook of our favourites, to inspire. We have omitted any with synthetic fibres (these just release microplastics into the washing machine – if used, launder in a microplastic catcher).
Organic cotton is much better for the planet, as it naturally biodegrades at end of life, and also is safe to launder in the machine. It’s also kinder to the planet and wildlife, and water supplies. And also to farmers, who don’t have to deal with toxic chemicals. Although it costs a little more, organic cotton tends to last longer, as fibres are not damaged by chemicals.
