Sometimes it’s nice to write a proper letter, rather than constantly talk in text speak or send emails. Older people especially appreciate it, and it’s nicer to write a letter on a recycled paper notebook, there’s just something nice about it (like reading a real book, compared to a Kindle).
Did you know that comedian Paul Merton owns no mobile phone or laptop? If you want to contact him, you have to phone his landline or write him a proper letter with a stamp! He is not on Twitter and even wrote his autobiography with a pencil! In an interview, he says that his daily routine is ‘go for a walk, eat porridge and then watch silent films with Buster Keaton!’ He says he is trying to use a typewriter, but ‘has to be guided through it!’ He does not use Google, does not have an iPod and only borrows a mobile phone, if he has to call a taxi.
Songwriter Ed Sheeran also does not own a mobile phone. He gave his up back in 2015, as it was making him ‘really really overwhelmed and sad’. Today he just checks his email every few days, then goes back to living his life. And this leads to a genius creativity that writes beautiful songs like this:
