The Best Vegan Leather Handbags

Filed Under: Fashion Tagged With: accessories

Luxtra vegan handbag

Hozen offers beautiful vegan handbags, made ethically in LA from recycled and biodegradable materials. 10% of profits are donated to Mercy for Animals. Choose from handbags, crossover bags and tote bags. This Quilted Mini Duffle is made from recycled vegan leather with a recycled plastic/organic cotton twill blend lining and recycled plastic thread. It features a recycled hemp label, vegan adhesive and low lead brass hardware.

Luxury Apple Leather Vegan Handbags

LUXTRA is a company that make luxury vegan handbags – from apples! OK, not quite but almost! The bags are partly made with apple waste from the Italian food industry. The apples are blended with some petroleum but hopefully new inventions will get better, and for now, at least it’s stopping animals being killed to make leather. The company is a Certified B Corporation (the opposite of greenwash). Which means they are the real deal (it’s tough to get certified here). The bags are free from all the ‘nasty vegan leathers’ like PVC. This brand also makes shoulder bags and pouches.

Handcrafted in Italy, the brand was founded by a native Aussie, who grew up with a love of all things flora and fauna, and wanted to do something to help. This award-winning company is putting vegan handbags on the map. They are expensive, but there is a huge market for this kind of designer bags (and they are not going to start shopping at thrift shops). So at least supporting these companies makes a ‘good switch’ for people who buy bags from leather, suede or crocodile skins.

This Mini Handbag is dinky and sweet, yet surprisingly spacious. It features a detachable shoulder strap and is delivered in an organic cotton dust bag. In Periwinkle Blue, Silver, Dark Cherry Red or Tan & Cream.

Some of the bags have silver-toned hardware and pockets for laptops, phones and clips for keys, with zippered internal and external pockets. You’ll even find silver backpacks made with ‘pineapple leather’ (see above) on how it’s made.

This green vegan leather tote bag is made from a vegan leather derived from cactus. Made in Italy, the bag is lined with vegan suede, and delivered in an organic cotton dust bag. The side stripe detail is accompanied by a reinforced base, to stop the bag from sagging. There are also four internal pockets, one of which is zipped. Features silver eco-brass hardware and subtle logo embossing. Big enough to hold a 15% laptop with a note book, reusable coffee cup and daily essentials. Also in dark cherry and caramel.

Luxury Recycled Plastic Handbags

Recycled plastic clothing can sometimes be problematic due to depositing microfibres in the washing machine. But recycled plastic handbags are a wonderful way to use up waste material. Mimicking vegan leather, Carter Bags are functional workbags that are ideal for those who need practical bags, rather than ones to keep a lipgloss and keys in!

These are basically luxury feminine alternatives to ‘frumpy laptop bags’ with bags of personality. The Tan Vegan Leather Bag is made from recycled plastic, with a recycled polyester inner. Featuring two compartments, a unique organiser panel and detachable straps, you can house all of your daily essentials, and safely stow your laptop and charger too. Perfect for commuting, the straps let you carry the bag on your bag, and easily reach your bank and travel cards, without fumbling around. With a Pink lining (or choose Black with a Blue lining).

Designer Vegan Leather Handbags

These designer vegan leather bags, are ideal for people who like to wear designer bags, but don’t want to harm creatures or the planet. Vegan leather is not perfect but it’s not as polluting (or cruel) as leather.  Some brands (including Hermes) even make bags with crocodile skin (an investigation found appalling cruelty). Switch to vegan crocodile/alligator-style bags.

JW Pei makes luxury sustainable fashion bags made with quality canvas, fabric from recycled plastic bottles and a little vegan leather. The range includes vegan crocodile leather. Choose from:

  1. Crossbody bags
  2. Shoulder bags
  3. Bucket bags
  4. Satchel bags
  5. Totes
  6. Backpacks
  7. Makeup bags
  8. Wallets & cardholders

I am going to listen to the wind and see what it tells me, or see if it tells me anything at all. I will follow the songlines and see what they sing to me. And I might bring a harvest of fresh tales, which I can scatter like apple seeds across this tired and angry land.
