Clara Bowl by Harold Dean Carsey
Most of us don’t really think about our eyebrows. Some people just have ‘normal eyebrows’, others pluck them so much that they end up having to fill them in with eyebrow pencil or even tattoo them back on, people with alopecia also lose their eyebrows
And some people (like Brooke Shields) have beautiful bushy thick eyebrows. But this can go the other way, with some people growing so much hair, that they end up with a ‘mono-brow!’
Eyebrow Tweezers (in plastic-free packaging)
So in Vogue offers a nice eyebrow tweezing kit, sold in plastic-free packaging. The pretty gold rose stainless set adds glamour and the slanted tip allows for easy shaping of brows, while the straight tip is ideal to remove ingrown hairs and apply eco false lashes, if you wear them!
Tweezerman is known for making good, however the range is so immense it’s confusing, and obviously geared towards over-consumption, encouraging people to buy sets, so they can use different tweezers for different eyebrow-plucking purposes. Vanity gone overboard, perhaps?
A Pack of Wheat Straw Eyebrow Razors!
This pack of wheat straw eyebrow razors offers an alternative to eyebrow tweezers. Sold in plastic-free packaging, the set contains three regular-size unisex razors.
The kit features Swedish stainless steel dermaplaning blades, and biodegradable safety guards, to prevent skin nicks. The razors remove hair painlessly in minutes, and be used for shaping eyebrows or removing unwanted facial hair. Suitable for the face, armpits, neck, bikini line and hands, this is good for both home and salon use.
Includes a safety wheat straw lid, to prevent damage. And a curved handle with comfortable grip. Ideal for removing peach fuzz and upper lip hair.
Always dispose of used razor blades in a blade bank. This costs a few pounds, then after full up (takes around a year), just seal and recycle with tin cans. This stops refuse workers and wildlife/birds getting cut on loose razor blades at landfill.
Organic Vegan Eyebrow Pencils
Zao Makeup offers organic vegan eyebrow pencils, made with jojoba oil and other natural ingredients (including zinc, so keep away from pets). The melting texture enables a smooth glide, and they are made with sustainable wood.
Organic Lash & Brow Gel
INIKA Organic offers a zero waste lash & brow serum, made with a blend of vegetable oils (black castor, pumpkin seed and marula seed) to absorb and condition, and also to promote hair growth, by using phytosterols (that block enzymes and hormones that cause hair loss).
Fun Facts About Your Eyebrows
Eyebrows are not really for beauty, they are designed to protect our eyes from tear, salt, sweat and the elements, just like eyelashes. Here are a few fun facts about your eyebrows:
- The average person has around 250 hairs per eyebrow (unless you’ve plucked too many, and they don’t grow back, or you have alopecia). Like hair on the head, eyebrows can thin with age.
- It takes around 4 months for new hair to grow back. So say you are in poor health. In 4 months (if you look after yourself and don’t over-pluck your brows), they should grow back as good as new!
- Eyebrows play a huge role in determining how to know people. In surveys, when celebrities have their eyebrows taken off, many people don’t even know who they are!
Do Other Animals Have Eyebrows?
Although quite a few have eyelashes, not many creatures have eyebrows (not even apes, although they have more hair overall than us). Some (like giraffes) look like they have eyebrows, but they are not really eyebrows as such. But they are super-cute, all the same!
