This biodegradable AirPods case is made from wheat straw, a leftover by-product from the farming industry, that would otherwise go to waste. It also includes a secure keyring attachment.
Sent in carbon-neutral packaging, these can bought in a range of vibrant colours, to match your wheat straw biodegradable phone case:
The company was created by two friends who grew up in a small town in northeast England, and saw first-hand the effect of plastic pollution. Everything is sent in sustainable packaging.
Wheat straw means each case has unique flecks. The texture is smooth but grippy (so it will slide in and out of a pocket, but not out of your hands – unlike silicone phone cases).
Note lighter colours are prone to picking up dye from denim. So choose darker colours, if preferred.
At end of life, you can return the case for discount on the new one. The old case will then be either recycled into new cases, or industrially composted.
What are Airpods?
AirPods are wireless Bluetooth earbuds, designed by Apple. They are now the company’s most popular accessory, but a nightmare for the planet, as they are almost impossible to recycle.
When you die, your bones will decompose in less than a century. But the plastic shell of AirPods won’t decompose for a least a millennium. VICE
