Where to Find Good Plant-Based Burgers

Filed Under: Veggie Eats Tagged With: barnyard friends, grocery

thanks plants no-mooo burgers

Good vegan burgers are made with protein and calcium (not just vegetables), sold without palm oil and in sustainable packaging (recycle plastic at supermarket bag bins). Serve in a bun with lettuce, tomato and all the trimmings. Keep these burgers away from pets, due to toxic ingredients like garlic, onion, mushrooms and jackfruit. If ordering online, keep ice gel packs away from pets and children.

Thanks Plants No Moooo Burger (Ireland) is sold in most good stores and supermarkets, or order online. Made with black beans, pearl barley and fresh veggies (carrots, beetroots and mushrooms), it’s flavoured with Dijon mustard, garlic puree, liquid smoke and smoked paprika.

Sgaia vegan burger

Sgaia (Scotland) is a company created by two Italian foodies. These burgers are made from wheat-meat (seitan) and taste like meat. The Italian-style burger has tomato and onion chunks, with fresh herbs. Guaranteed to never fall apart on a BBQ, it’s great with garlic vegan mayo, spinach leaves, basil and slices tomatoes (and optional chilled beer).

moving mountains vegan burger

Moving Mountains is a very successful food brand, founded by a vegetarian who was told by his doctor that he had to cut out dairy, as his cholesterol was too high. Today, his meat and fish alternatives are sold nationwide in shops, and also one of the main wholesalers for hotels, restaurants and others serving up vegan alternatives. Many are also in plastic-free packaging (just slide out of the cardboard box) and all items are free from palm oil. All products are made with natural ingredients over fake meats.

The Moving Mountains Burger has been praised by top chefs nationwide, and is packed with plant protein and juicyness. Sold in many vegan fast food joints, this will fool even the most committed carnivore. Made with oyster mushrooms and onion, it also has pea and soy protein and is coloured red with beetroot. It also includes vitamin B12, the essential one that vegans need. The ‘beef mince’ is ideal to make homemade burgers or meatballs, or use in spaghetti bolognese, lasagne or shepherds/cottage pie. Also shape into meatballs or homemade burgers.

Vegan fast food chain Unity Diner (London) uses Moving Mountain in all its menus, with profits helping its own Surge Animal Sanctuary.

I am going to listen to the wind and see what it tells me, or see if it tells me anything at all. I will follow the songlines and see what they sing to me. And I might bring a harvest of fresh tales, which I can scatter like apple seeds across this tired and angry land.
