Bothy is a unique book about people who live in a remote mountain shelter that has no electricity, running water or mod cons. No need to reserve and the door is always unlocked, just step inside. And here you’ll find the author – kettle on, feet up and pen out!

In this book, accompany the author on a journey around the country to reveal not just the history of wild mountain shelters, but the people who visit them. With the insight of a historian and the imagination of a rambler, discover fresh consideration into the concept of nature, wilderness and escape. And along the way, the author weaves together her own story of heartbreak and new purpose, with those of her fellow wanderers both now and before.

With a warm wit and infectious wanderlust, the author moves from a hut in a military training area in far-north Scotland to a fairytale cottage in Wales. And on her travels, explores the conflict between our desire to preserve isolated beauty – and the urge to share it with others. This is a beautiful book to inspire anyone, who longs to ‘run away to the wilds’.

An intelligent and thoughtful book that will have you reaching for your boots. It is also a meditation on change. Cal Flyn
