Birmingham Brewing Company (vegan beers and zero waste gin)
Birmingham Brewing Company offers lovely beers and stouts, all vegan-friendly, gluten-free and made in Brum! If you live local, orders are delivered in person!
The brewery and taproom are powered by green energy, and everything not used is recycled. A portion of sales are also donated to local causes, including West Midlands Air Ambulance.
There are many beers to choose from, you can buy single flavours or multi-packs to try them all out. Plus there is a Sober Brummie, for those avoiding alcohol.
To avoid wildlife getting trapped at landfills or recycling plans, rinse cans before recycling (pop ring-pulls back over holes). Then step on upper cans to pinch rims together.
The range of beers
- Pale Brummie is a pale ale made with dry hops, a citrus zesty classic.
- Bitter Brummie is brewed with caramel malts for a rich amber hue and sweet malt liquorice taste.
- Gold Brummie includes American hops for notes of pine and grapefruit.
- Hazy Brummie is brewed with oats with tropical tastes of mango, papaya, lychee and pineapple.
- Hopfenweisse is a dry hopped wheat bear with notes of banana, clove, grapefruit, citrus and pine.
- Stirchley lager is a light crisp drink made with German melon hops.
Sober Brummie (0.5% vol pale ale)
Sober Brummie (0.5%) is brewed with five different malts for best flavours. Note that no alcohol can be totally alcohol-free (even fruit and bread has a little alcohol). So it’s still best to avoid all such drinks for pregnancy/nursing.
Birmingham Brewing Company’s vegan stouts
Stout Brummie has warming earthy and floral aromas. Sober Brummie stout (0.5%) is made with roasted malts and oatmeal.
Although Guinness is vegan, it’s not even Irish-owned anymore. And Belhaven is not vegan (filtered through animal products).
The Brummie gin!
The Brummie gin is made with the leftover mash from making the Pale Brummie beer. Alongside six botanicals (juniper, orange peel, coriander, orris root, lemon peel and cassia). The smooth fruity flavour pairs well with yuzu tonic water.
Check medication before drinking tonic water (due to quinine) and grapefruit (if using as a garnish).
