Just Wholefoods (natural mixes from the Cotswolds)

just wholefoods energy balls

Just Wholefoods is a small artisan food company that create lovely plant-based mixes, to create your favourite teatime treats, made with kind ingredients and lots of love, from the Cotswolds.

Find these items in health shops, or buy online in bulk. Read up on food safety for people and pets. You can recycle packaging at supermarket bag bins, if your kerbside does not recycle.

Energy Balls are packed with oat flakes, sunflower seeds, quinoa puffs, cacao nibs and flaxseed (omega 3 fatty acids). Just mix 2 tablespoons each of organic nut butter, water and maple or golden syrup. 1 pack makes 12 servings.

Organic Flapjack Mix is free from butter and palm oil, made with heart-healthy oats and sweet raisins, along with sunflower seeds, dates and sweetened with coconut blossom sugar. Just add 11g of oil or vegan butter (Flora has no palm oil) and 2 tablespoons of maple or golden syrup. Mix and bake. 1 box makes 12 servings.

Organic Pancake Mix is made with oat flour (for fibre) and brown rice flour, sweetened with coconut blossom sugar. Also in a matcha (green superfood version), just add oat milk and cook for fluffy pancakes in minutes. 1 pack size makes 8 servings. Keep fresh dough away from children and pets.

Falafel mix is a delicately spiced mix with cumin and coriander, ideal made into 8 falafels to stuff into pitta pockets, with crisp salad and a drizzle of tahini. Or serve on a bed of hot couscous with spicy vegetable stew.

Frooty Sweets are for older children (to avoid choking hazards) and are vegan alternatives to chewy sweets made with gelatine and/or beeswax. Made in fun hedgehog and bear shapes, these contain real fruit flavours (blackcurrant, apple, raspberry) and natural food dyes:

These are not ‘health foods’ (they contain glucose syrup) but are far better and contain less sugar than conventional brands, if you want to switch from you-know-who!

Quick Set Vegan Jelly Crystals

just wholefoods vegan jelly

Just Wholefoods Vegan Jelly is made with natural ingredients, and is also free from gelatine (animal bones) unlike most jelly mixes. Very simple to make, just mix the crystals with boiling water, leave to cool and set in the fridge. You could also mix with plant milk, to make ‘milk jellies’. Or mix with fresh fruits, and chill in individual pots or moulds.

1 pint of jelly should serve four people. Serve with vegan ice-cream or custard. Sold in four flavours:

  • Strawberry
  • Raspberry
  • Lemon
  • Tropical

The jellies are made with natural ingredients from a small artisan food company based in the Cotswolds. Sweetened with raw cane sugar, they are made with carrageenan and locust bean gum (gelling agents) and flavoured with natural fruits and dyed naturally.

For example, the raspberry and strawberry jellies are coloured with beetroot powder and the lemon with curcumin (turmeric – not too much, it’s not curried jelly!)

Just Wholefoods Vegeset

Just Wholefoods Vegeset is a plant-based alternative to gelatine, ideal for all your savoury and sweet recipes. It works with any kind of liquid (including plant milks), just sub for gelatine in any recipe. 1 pack (25g) sets up to 5 pints.

Vanilla Custard Powder

Natural Vanilla Custard Powder is the next best thing, if you don’t want to make homemade custard from scratch. Just mix with plant milk and natural sweetener, then thicken on the hob, and pour over your favourite desserts or vegan jelly. 1 pack (100g) makes 5 pints (20 servings).

Made with real vanilla and natural colours of curmeric (turmeric) and annatto.
