Paws in Our Hearts (Bosnia) does wonderful work helping dogs who come there with nowhere else to go, on very limited funds. Many dogs in Bosnia suffer terrible fates if not rescued, and this woman and her husband do all they can to feed, shelter and rescue dogs, many old and sick.

You can donate via the charity’s Paypal account (no account needed, any amount however small helps). Or message on Facebook page above to get bank details, to directly deposit donations.

A great way to help is to make the charity your cause at easyfundraising. Then just download the Chrome app to remind you, so any time you shop at one of over 8000 stores (including Amazon, Argos, Booking.com or even plane and train tickets), the charity receives a portion of the sale, at no cost to you (loyalty points are not affected).

Find more Bosnia shelters to help, all need funds.

Saving Strays (Bosnia) gives every penny donated to helping abandoned, neglected or mistreated dogs. It responds to urgent calls, rescues dogs on ‘death row’ and offers lifetime care to dogs that need it.

It also has an in-house team of home checkers and achieved charity status with the help of a vet and actor Peter Egan, after a film about this organisation was shown at the European Parliament.

Although we have wonderful animal shelters in England, many shelters abroad also do amazing work  to help street dogs and cats, often in the face of opposition from government. So if you have a few pounds to spare, consider these charities to support as part of your monthly giving:
