easy vegan Christmas

Rather than follow the same traditions, why not make your own Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, using recipes from Katy Beskow’s wonderful book Easy Vegan Christmas. Look online for your area’s vegan Christmas markets, most cities have one where you can try new foods, buy gifts and make friends!

Before cooking, read up on food safety for people & pets (many items are off the menu for animal friends including dried fruits, citrus, chocolate, nutmeg and alcohol). Read more on keeping pets safe at Christmas (holly & other items to avoid).

Recipes include:

  1. Celeriac soup with toasted hazelnuts
  2. Sage, onion & chestnut rolls
  3. Roasted pears with red onions
  4. Christmas cobbler
  5. Crispy bourguignon pie
  6. Ultimate roast potatoes
  7. Pomegranate & rosemary punch
  8. Snow marble cupcakes
  9. Mulled wine

Author Katy Beskow grew up in Yorkshire, and learned to cook while studying physiotherapy in London (inspired by the markets of fresh produce, while having to eat on a budget). Returning to her home county, her blog led to a cookbook deal which led to another, and now Katy has many top-selling vegan cookbooks under her belt.

a reusable Advent calendar from Dorset

reusable Advent calendar

This reusable Advent Calendar is unique. Instead of chocolates, it’s thoughtfully handmade in Dorset from cotton corduroy and recycled felt (rescued from landfill). Colours may vary. Just use your own zero waste gifts (rather than factory-farmed chocolates).

Advent is a season in the Christian faith, waiting to celebrity the Christmas nativity and return of Jesus. It begins the liturgical year in western Christianity (monks would fast in the month up to Christmas). And in Eastern Christianity is called the Nativity Fast (when they don’t eat dairy or meat). Take your own online Advent retreat at the Ignatian Catholic site Pray As You Go.
