Rose petal confetti (ensure flowers are pet-safe)

Organic rose petal confetti

Despite the recent ban on single-use plastic, metallic and plastic confetti is presently exempt (unlike some countries like Sweden that have banned it).

However, many councils have implemented their own bans, and most churches ban it too (remember many have wildlife in grounds, that could be harmed).

Confetti takes ages to remove from grounds (it’s almost impossible to pick up every bit), so either don’t use confetti, or choose a more natural option. You can buy brands made from recycled paper (some are even made from recycled romance novels), or rose petal confetti.

Rose petals are safer near pets, as many flower confetti brands sell delphiniums or hydrangea, which are toxic near animal friends. Same applies for plantable cards (most are embedded with toxic wildflower seeds, so never send to homes with pets).

Only buy enough to last a few weeks, as they don’t last long. Aim for 1 litre of rose petals for around 10 guests to throw confetti.

Many flowers used for confetti (larkspur/delphiniums & hydrangeas) are unsafe near animal friends. So only use at pet-free weddings. Same applies for ‘plantable cards’.

Rice is also not a good idea (many churches ban it). It’s a slipping hazard, and also attracts pigeons!

Also never release balloons or fire lanterns (nor butterflies, doves or kites – all harm birds, wildlife and marine creatures).

Where to recycle plastic confetti

You could collectively buy a Terracycle Party Supplies Box to recycle remaining confetti, but if not, just bin it.
