Smidge (a chopping board from salvaged paper)

Smidge chopping board

Smidge is a food chopping board to use salvaged scrap paper (along with 5% food-grade resin), to avoid ones made from single-use plastic or wood. Combining the convenience and anti-bacterial properties of both, these boards are also easy to clean, won’t blunt your knives, and have draining grooves, to prevent mess on your kitchen worktop. Sold in 3 sizes.

Read our post on food safety for people and pets (some foods like onion, garlic and citrus are unsafe near animal friends). Also just bin scraps from alliums (onion, garlic, leeks, shallots, chives) and tomato/citrus/rhubarb) as acids could harm compost creatures.

Tips to Use and Care for Chopping Boards

  • If you’re veggie, you only need one board! Although treat cantaloupe melon (prone to salmonella poison) as meat, and chop on a separate board (only eat fresh, and store away from other foods in the fridge).
  • Use a wet cloth under your chopping board, to stop it from sliding on the counter.
  • Use a quality affordable knife, much safer than a blunt one.
  • After use, immediately wash in warm soapy water, rinse well and air-dry in an upright position. Don’t use tea towels (these can transfer germs).
  • You can use a biodegradable sanitiser spray if wished, for further food safety.
