Why choose recycled birthday cards?
Most birthday cards are made from virgin paper, which chops trees down. Choosing post-consumer recycled cards is far better, as a way to use up waste.
These cards are plain recycled paper. Plantable cards may be fashionable, but usually are not that great. For a start, they should never be sent to homes with pets, as many flowers are toxic.
Secondly, most of them don’t use native seeds, which could cause more issues than it solves. By introducing invasive species, which does not help pollinators like bees and butterflies. If you do use them, check they only use native organic plants, and only send to pet-free homes.
Where to recycled used birthday cards
You can pop used birthday cards in with normal recycling. However, cards with glitter need to be binned. Which is why it’s good to have some eco-friendly ones to hand, like these!
