The Deep South of the USA is a region comprising of several states that border Mexico. Alas this beautiful area with gorgeous accents, the best country music and iced tea is now more known for being a Republican stronghold that inexplicably is perhaps going to re-elect Donald Trump as President. What’s more mystifying is that it’s a deeply Christian area (what’s Christian about a man who once held up a Bible while his ‘yes-man’ sprayed tear gas at peaceful protestors?) He also thinks climate change is made up by the Chinese as a business strategy. And Jesus would not approve of how he treats women. God help us, y’all!
The irony is that the people of the Deep South are voting for someone (and Biden is not much better, he went back on environmental promises almost immediately after elected) who is likely due to climate change denial going to end up destroying some of the USA’s most beautiful scenery. Including the Blue Ridge Mountains (made famous in the song The Trail of the Lonesome Pine by Laurel and Hardy – Stan Laurel was from Cumbria).
Savannah is the oldest city in the ‘peach state’ of Georgia. When American writer Bill Bryson travelled his country, he plumped for this as his favourite. A beautiful and walkable city, this is about as much of a ‘dream city’ you can get with gorgeous buildings, parks and cobblestone streets, it’s city utopia design-wise! However it is prone to floods and hurricanes.
