Capetown Henry Rivers

Henry Rivers

South Africa is known as (despite its political past) one of the world’s most beautiful countries. It has almost the same population as England (62 million people) but the wildlife is more likely to eat you! On a serious note, this is the home of several critically endangered species, and great efforts are being made to protect them. And to help the 7 million people (more than any other population on earth) living with HIV.

As well as being home to many native wildlife, South Africa is also home to around 9% of all the world’s plants. But it’s the animals you likely recognise – leopards, cheetahs, southern white rhinos, hippos, wildebeest, hyeneas, impalas and giraffes.

Table Mountain unusually has a ‘flat top’ and overlooks the city of Cape Town, and is national park visited by millions each year.  The city is known for its beautiful harbour and named by the New York Times and The Times as ‘best place to visit in the world!’ The other main city of Johannesburg is one of the largest urban areas on earth.
