Homemade Healthy Overnight Oats Recipe

overnight oats

This recipe for overnight oats (The Simple Veganista) gives all the benefits of homemade porridge, but no cooking or stirring, and is great for people who are not good in the mornings!

Before making, read our post on food safety for people and pets.

To make overnight oats, you basically soak the oats overnight with various flavours, to let them marinate. The the next morning, your ‘cold porridge’ is ready, and you just add your favourite toppings.

Oats are full of soluble fibre, so kind of ‘sweep up bad cholesterol’ from your insides, to it comes out the other end! That’s why porridge is such a great breakfast for people with heart disease or clogged arteries. It also gives lots of energy, to last you until lunchtime.

For this recipe, you need a combo of quick oats and and old-fashioned oats. Plus some plant milk and yoghurt for extra creaminess. You may have to visit a health store to buy both, as most supermarkets tend to stick to processed sugary cereals, and microwave porridge sachets.

Homemade Bircher Muesli

Bircher muesli

Bircher muesli is a similar recipe, that is often served in Swiss health clinics. It relies more on grated apple than other fruits, and is served with nuts and cream (omit chia seeds, for choking hazards). You can then add plant milk and optional maple syrup in the morning.
