make it vegan

The book begins Maddie’s life story. After falling into unhealthy eating disorders and drinking while at university, she moved to Cornwall where she worked as a marketing assistant for a holiday park. She kind of ‘fell into’ having a YouTube channel, which took off as her health improved, and now she’s one of England’s best-known healthy living influencers.

The book includes an excellent chapter on reasons to go vegan, plus a good simple guide to how to stock your kitchen with the best tools. She writes that unless you’re a restauranteur or on Masterchef, there’s no need to get stressed about cooking.

Madeleine suggests trying one or two of her recipes each week, putting on some music (she likes Norah Jones) and chilling out, while you enjoy learning to cook.

Then by the end of the book you should have a firm few favourite meals, to enjoy making over and over, plus pushing the boat out with desserts and baking, for special occasions.

100 Plant-Based Recipes to Enjoy Everyday

all day vegan

All Day Vegan is a unique book of really easy recipes, if you’re fed of complex books that tell you to find another page to find a recipe to find one of the ingredients, you know the kind of thing! This book by a popular YouTuber offers truly simple recipes.

If you’ve just bought a chunk of artisan vegan cheese but don’t know what to do with it, or if you don’t know where to start with plant-based cuisine, this is the book for you.

Many of today’s recipe books seem to be more about taking photographs of the authors rather than the food itself. This book is quite different, with a comprehensive contents page detailing all the recipes, so you can just flip to whatever you fancy making. The 100 (very unique) recipes include:

  1. Strawberry cheesecake mousse
  2. Lemon pie oatmeal
  3. Mini’s muesli guide (a no-recipe recipe!)
  4. Go-to scrambled tofu
  5. Hot orange waffles
  6. Green pea toast (or pasta salad)
  7. New York-style bagels
  8. Greek-style pita sandwiches
  9. Artichoke tortilla pizza
  10. Apple pie energy bites
  11. Minty iced chocolate
  12. Date & maple crumble bars
  13. Sweet & salty almond cookies
  14. Lemon & ginger loaf
  15. Carrot cake for one
  16. Chocolate chai ice cream

The first recipe is for chocolate polenta porridge. If you’re getting bored of daily oatmeal but don’t want to go down the ‘cocoa pops’ road, then this is a nice compromise, which cooks up plant milk with natural vanilla and maple syrup in a pan, before adding a mix of polenta with salt and coconut powder, for a ‘porridge’ served with a splash of plant milk.

Many recipes are straight from Mina’s own YouTube channel, with colourful photos of each recipe, kitchen staples and cooking tips, plus Mina’s no-nonsense digestible voice. Gone are the overly complex recipe your eyes glazed over in other books.
