Sky Diamond (precious jewels made from air – seriously!)

Sky diamond

Sky Diamond is the ethical alternative for people who buy real diamonds. But these require no mining. They are made by combining hydrogen from rainwater, forming the same crystal structure as earth-mined diamonds. And unlike most lab-grown gems, this brand cuts out all fossil fuels completely.

These are expensive, but are an alternative to people who (and they do) pay thousands of pounds for engagement and wedding rings. Before ordering, find your correct ring size.

Why choose diamonds made from air?

You’ve likely heard of ‘blood diamonds’ (where profits fund civil war). Due to the controversy, most jewellers no longer sell these.

But conventional mining of diamonds and other precious metals still requires dynamite to blast mines, which releases toxic gases near to mines, harming people and wildlife.

Mining is also very dangerous (same for the metals used in phones, which is why it’s good to buy more sustainable smartphones made with recycled materials).

Donkeys are often used to transport mined gold from mines in hot weather. So the less new metals and gems we use, the better to help our donkey friends.

There is enough gold and silver mined on earth to last for eternity. And it’s easy to recreate gems like sapphire to ruby in a lab, for DNA identical stones. Even diamonds!

Caring for jewellery

Don’t expose jewellery to perfume or hairspray and remove for swimming and saunas. To clean, soak items in lukewarm water with mild liquid soap. Rinse well and dry with a soft clean cloth.

Where to recycle unwanted jewellery

Send odd earrings, broken chains and unwanted watches/bank notes freepost to Animal Free Research UK or War Paws (sold metals raises funds for animals).
