recable

Charging cables are the kinds of items that most of us don’t really think about – they just plug into your computer or mobile phone and go. If you have unused frayed ones hanging around, buy a Zero Waste Bag from Terracycle and fill it up with these and other hard-to-recycle goods (to make in something else). Or recycled at your local depot. Check devices before choosing a charger, and never overload sockets.

recable is a German company that makes zero waste charging cables and other devices. Made with vegan conflict-free materials (and wrapped in a paper belly band), it’s easy to recycle, and lovingly handmade to fast-charge your smartphone. In pretty colours, it has almost half the carbon footprint of conventional cables.

Due to adapters being glued by others, their manufacturer can’t provide precise info if lightning cable glue used is vegan (it may be, they are trying to find out). All other items are vegan.

Nolii charger

Nolii is a brand founded by a techy man who was fed up with the tangle of flimsy chargers. So he set out to design something better. Made ethically in China from recycled materials, these are made with kevlar collars to prevent fraying and a simple weight stops them from diving behind the nightstand. With a fresh design, the cable carries a 2-year warranty. The silicone loop neatly winds it up.

Nolii charging plug

The tactile charging plug is also built to last and made using recycled polycarbonate. With dual fast-charging USB-C ports, you can charge two devices at once, faster with up to 40W speeds. Again carrying a 2-year guarantee, it features a premium stone-speckled textured finish.

gomi power bank

Gomi Portable Charger is made from recycled bubble wrap, plastic bags, food packaging, recycled aluminium (from cars, window frames and cars) and upcycled e-bike batteries! Designed to be repaired by you in just 10 minutes, it can charge your phone up to 3 times, and charge 2 devices at once (due to USB-A and USB-C ports). It’s also lightweight and sleek, easy to fit into your pocket. This unique company also makes sound speakers from the same recycled materials.
