Inspiration from Abroad: Bag Snaggers (for trees!)

BagSnagger is a super invention from New York, designed for volunteers to easily remove snagged bags from trees and rivers. It’s also perfect to snag trash from waterways or along shorelines, or any hard to reach area.
The invention can extend to 40 feet, so remove bags from high trees that are not just a blight on the landscape, but harmful to birds and wildlife. It can also remove rubbish caught in rivers, canals and lakes that may otherwise be difficult to retrieve.
This tool is used in the USA by many city parks and private companies worldwide. It’s even used in New York’s Central Park. It features snap button connectors and fiberglass extension poles to reach up high, then one of the sharpened hooks can slice a bag that may have wound around a tree branch.
The device is then twirled down, winding the bag on the hooks, to free it from the tree. The smaller Pocket Snaagger uses 4 foot poles for easy use. Again it has extensones poles to teach almost 30 feet.
The device is promoted by the ‘Divine’ Miss Bette Midler, whose husband was once bought her a custom-engraved version for her birthday. She keeps it in her car boot, ready to whip it out at a moment’s notice, if she ever finds a plastic bag snagged on a tree!
