Exploring Buttermere: a Lake District gem

The Buttermere tree!

The tree looks different throughout the year, from fresh green leaves in spring to bare branches reflected in the winter water.
The village of Buttermere

Nearby Honister Pass provides an adventurous route through the mountains and connects Buttermere with Borrowdale. The pass is steep and winding, but the views are unforgettable, particularly from the higher sections.

Visitors should come prepared for typical Lake District conditions. Waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended, even for a short walk, as weather can change quickly and paths may become wet.
It is also important to respect the countryside by keeping dogs under control, leaving gates as they are found, and taking litter home.
