Castile soap (a multipurpose cleaning/laundry item)

Castile soap is an all-rounder that can perform cleaning and laundry tasks, remove stains and even be used to clean yourself!

Greenscents Organic Castile Soap is sold in refillable glass jars. Once empty, just order the refill 5 or 20 litre drums, then decant and send back empties for refilling, to save money.

Nonscents is for pregnancy/nursing, allergies or near babies/pets. For everyone else, mint or lavender are scented with essential oils.

Never mix castile soap with vinegar or lemon juice, as acids will neutralise the soap, and it will clump into a mess of free fatty acids. Hard water areas may leave soap scum residue to minerals in castile soap.

Use with plastic-free cloths and fair trade rubber gloves.

Castile soap for stain removal

Pour a small neat amount on to stains (blood, grass or food). Let it sit for 30 minutes, then launder as normal.

Castile soap for washing clothes 

Add 20ml to 40ml to the drum for a 5/6kg load. Use a hot wash for white cottons and linen. For hand wash, add 10ml to around 6 litres of warm water. Launder synthetic fabrics with a microfiber filter.

Castile soap to wash the dishes

Squeeze a few drops onto a wet plastic-free sponge or washing-up brush.

Castile soap as a surface cleaner 

Apply one pump on a damp cloth to wipe worktops, sinks, basins and baths. To clean floors, mix 10-15ml in bucket of hot water. Use a sink filter to catch microplastics from mops.

Castile soap as body wash or shampoo

Use 5ml in the shower or bath. Castile soap is alkaline, so avoid for dry skin. Avoid handling glass with  wet hands.

Castile soap as a facial cleanser

Add 1 to 2 drops on wet hands, lather and gently wash your face. It’s alkaline so avoid near your eyes (it will sting!) Use the same ratio as a shaving lather.
