Time to call out ‘new levels of stupid’ on climate science

This post title was inspired by the excellent video below, going into detail on the ‘new levels of stupid’ by climate-science-denying MPs. Of course it’s good to stay polite. But really –
In a year that has had five heatwaves, thousands of people dying and people literally fleeing from burning homes is going into super-scary end-of-the-world stuff.
The New Forest will take decades to recover from recent wildfires, which have killed tens of thousands of native birds and wildlife. New Forest ponies literally ran for their lives.
It’s time to call it out. And listen to the science.
And just as important is to not let the media get away with being so beige on everything. He rightly points out that after Richard Tice asked us all to ‘enjoy the warm weather’ and beat the French with better sparkling wine – even though he gives out misinformation on climate science.

After the Clacton-on-Sea by-election, the Farage Fest (in the middle of a heatwave) literally celebrated by having three open fires. The clue’s in the name – WILD fire. They were lucky the constituents that just re-elected him did not lose their homes and possibly lives.
It’s super-important to get your science from some place else than right-wing political parties and media. Or simply put – we’re all going to die from climate change, so there’s no point in even trying. None of these people have any scientific training.
There is an amazing piece of ‘science’ in this video, which a journalist doing their job should call out at the next Richard Tice press conference. He says that we need to just ‘adapt’ to climate change, echoing the editor of a national newspaper who says we should just adapt, like the Mediterranean.
Professor Toby firstly calls out that Spain and Portugal (and other areas with similar climates like California, Australia and South Africa) have all suffered with wildfires. But the dealbreaker is this:
He brings up a map of the UK, showing that 70% of the country is agricultural land. He quite simply asks ‘What is he suggesting – to air-condition the farms or something?’
What does Net Zero actually mean?
It just means reducing emissions, to balance ones given out. So if 100 tons of carbon is emitted, it’s offset by other things like reducing fossil fuels, planting forests and restoring wetlands (Richard Tice calls this ‘net stupid zero’). He’s often never sat near a bogland and stood in awe at the site of a wading curlew.
Net zero plans help to reduce carbon emissions, which in turn help to reduce heatwaves and stops species going extinct. It also helps our farmers by preventing droughts and wildfires.
An important caveat here. This does not mean that we cover the country in wind turbines (some off-shore planned builds would kill thousands of puffins and other seabirds). Join the campaign to Stop Berwick Bank.
Intelligent solutions are walkable communities, organic food and free home insulation, this would mean far less reliance on oil. And for sure never drilling for oil or gas at Rosebank and Jackdaw (which would not bring down bills, as oil is sold on the international market).
There’s a common thread in that all of the below accept climate change is real, but don’t accept that it’s mostly caused by humans.
Climate scientist Dr John Cook says that when asked how much of modern day climate change is caused by humans, his general answer is ‘all of it’. Even for people less certain, it’s known that around 97% of climate scientists say the same, the other 3% or so are funded by the fossil fuel industries.
What does Restore Britain say on climate change?
Rupert Lowe’s party is even less of a fan of climate science, saying The Climate Change Act should be abolished. Again he’s doing what ecological writer Satish Kumar says is the problem by ‘replacing one energy with another’. If we used less energy and lived simple sustainable lives, there would be no issue.
What does GB News say on climate change?
GB News (owned by a billionaire hedge fund manager who also owns The Spectator and online news site Unherd) employs Reform UK MPs and constantly denies climate change. And gives oxygen to the nonsense science-denying soundbites in mainstream media.
Once when GB News presenter Neil Oliver suggested high temperature warnings were just ‘scaring people’, BBC meteorologist and weather presenter Tomask Schafternaker said that the presented facts were wrong, due to not knowing the difference between air and ground temperatures.
In fact, the reality was more scary. People are dying due to misinformation on climate science.
It’s actually sad that a popular and likeable TV presenter on the natural world in recent years now goes against climate science. It’s understandable that he doesn’t want the country covered in wind turbines.
But as noted above, replacing mass oil with walkable communities, organic food, natural fabrics, zero waste lifestyles to reduce plastic and free home insulation to bring down bills, all would mean no more need to be built. Perhaps since the 2026 wildfires, he may rethink?
What does Trump say on climate chnage?
Oh dear. He calls climate change ‘the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world’. And is presently being sued by Earth Justice, who is hoping to stop him drilling for oil in areas where polar bears could go extinct.
On the plus side, he and Vance are so deeply unpopular, that it’s almost certain that they will be replaced by a climate-change-believing President at the next election. Hold on polar bears, help is hopefully not far away.
Trump calls wind farms ‘windmills’. It is true that there are issues with wildlife. But there are now bladeless turbines and in Norway they found that painting the base and one blade black, helped to stop collisions with wildilfe.
But again, less energy is the answer (turbines are built with imported materials, and need lots of maintenance which involves driving out to the farms in trucks, which rather defeats the point).
What do oil companies say on climate change?
Strangely, Shell Oil admits that climate change is human-induced. And states it intends to become net-zero by 2050. How it’s going to do that is not clear, as it does not advocate shutting down oil and gas operations.
