County Durham (a hilly city, wild weather and St. Cuthbert)
Durham is a stunning little county. The hilly city of Durham with its cathedral and association with Saint Cuthbert is surrounded by wild and windy weather, and beautiful countryside.
There is also a small coastline (no very much). Bring an extra jumper, as it’s cold in these parts!

Durham (a beautiful city)
This city has one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Europe, due to its cathedral, built in the 11th and 12th century .It has enormous stone columns, vaulted ceilings and intricate details.
The River Wear
This runs through the city of Durham, and lovely for riverside walks. You can see historic buildings, wooded slopes and stone bridges on your travels.
One of the oldest universities
Like Oxford and Cambridge, Durham university has a top reputation. And for this reason, thousands of students rent digs in the city. Which is why places here are more affordable than most.
