Merseyside (Liverpool, beaches and boats to Ireland)
Merseyside is not just Liverpool, although of course it includes this big friendly city. Situated on the River Mersey, it also includes lots of rural areas and many seaside resorts, including Southport.
Liverpool is of course best known for being birthplace of The Beatles. Still one of the world’s most popular bands, drummer Ringo Starr’s techniques are now taught in university. He almost died as a child which left him with a serious allergy to spices. He’s never had a curry!
If out walking, follow the Countryside Code to keep all creatures safe (learn how to upright an overturned sheep). Keep dogs away from steep banks, mushrooms, cliffs and toxic plants/trees.

The Liver Birds – Bella and Bertie
If you look at Liverpool’s tallest building, you’ll see Bella and Bertie, two birds who look out over the city. Like the ravens in the Tower of London, it’s said that if they leave, the city will fall!
The River Mersey
So iconic, a song was written about it. The Wirral Peninsula lies between here and the Dee Estuary, a mix of towns, villages, countrside and coast.
New Brighton
This is a popular seaside resort, situated at the mouth of the Mersey. With views towards Liverpool and the Irish Sea.
A ferry crossing to Ireland
You can take a longer ferry journey to Ireland from Liverpool (if you don’t travel to North Wales). Of course Liverpool has a huge amount of Irish immigrants. So it’s good to go back to see the relatives!
Southport (and safe communities)
This is a pretty seaside town. And it’s important to not just associate it with the tragic murder of three girls a few years ago.
