Margamarina

Jays are not as common as other birds, and easy to spot due to their beautiful blue wing marks. They are actually crows, who often look for acorns in parks and woodland. They are also very noisy, very loud chatterboxes! These birds are very shy, and hide under their ‘black moustaches’, as thety fly between trees, to enjoy eating beetles and caterpillars and sometimes fruits.

Don’t encourage birds to gardens if you live with cats (keep feline friends inside at dawn and dusk, when birds are likely feeding). Don’t play birdsong near birds, it can make them vulnerable to predators. Learn how to create safe havens for garden birds and how to stop birds flying into windows
