A Guide to North East England, Naturally
North East England is a land of contrasts. There’s the buzz of Newcastle, but visit the nearby coast to find the most sparsely-populated area of England. Northumberland is a religious and mystical land of vast sandy beaches overlooked by ancient castles.
Here you’ll also find The Farne Islands (fave wildlife-watching spot for Sir David Attenborough). You’ll find puffins to seals to sometimes whales, though there are strict rules to avoid disturbance.
Nearby is Beadnell Beach, a stunning place but don’t tell anyone!
Just down the coast is Lincolnshire (part of the East Midlands). But there’s another small coast in north east England at Seaham. Painter Lowrey loved it here. You’ll also find that a huge part of this area is taken up by Yorkshire, including Scarborough and Whitby, two popular holiday resorts.
Go further north and you’ll come to Berwick-upon-Tweed, on the border with Scotland. It has a history of changing hands so much, that it even has its own tweed!
