Inspired by a year in the Scottish Highlands, this book is by wildlife conservationist turned content creator Molly Ella, who encourages curiosity oto simple ‘plodding’. Inspired by her experiences growing up on the Isle of Arran and living in a tiny home in Cairngorms National Park.
- Theme: emerge, inhabit, nostalgia, imagine―the concept of each chapter links with Scottish traditions and what’s happening in nature
- Topic: the importance of deep work for creativity, gently romanticizing your life, encouraging meaningful connections, planning vs being present, and more
- Nature spot: read about red squirrels, capercaillie, heather, kingfishers, wildflowers, mushrooms, rock pools, trees and even slugs.
- Activity ideas: start a nature diary, take part in citizen science, create your own curriculum, devise deep work rituals, and mark the solstices
Strive for a life that genuinely serves you – even if that’s not what society expects. Connecting with nature is the key to real change.
Who wrote this book?
Molly Ella runs a popular Substack account, although she increasingly does not live online (a few years back, she left Instagram even though she had over 10,000 followers). She now only turns the laptop on her own terms.
After later giving up all social media, she devoted more time from her tiny minimalist home in thte Scottish Highlands. Now she reads books, rather than knowing what a friend had for breakfast.
She ‘works less hours’ but gets more done. And ‘doesn’t understand TikTok’ and has no wish to do so!
