Homemade fruit juice (plus important safety tips)

easy peach juice

One way to enjoy fresh fruit juice is to simply make your own. However, it’s very important to also avoid unpasteurised juice for children, pregnancy/nursing and weak immunity.

Try these two recipes for homemade strawberry juice and homemade peach juice (both by Broke Bank Vegan).

Check medication before consuming grapefruit. Also don’t leave sweet drinks lying around, to avoid enticing ants, bees and wasps.

Safety tips for making homemade fruit juice

  • Wash produce under running water (even if peeled). Discard bruised areas.
  • Wash/sanitise juicers, knives and cutting boards with hot soapy water (before and after use).
  • Keep juice chilled at the right temperature. Drink within a day.
  • Cantaloupe melon carries slight risk of salmonella poisoning (due to the netted ring). Keep cut melons in the fridge away from other foods, use a clean knife and wash thoroughly underneath the rind.
