atypicalthing (recycled jewellery from Birmingham)

recycled hammered stud earrings

atypicalthing is based in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. But this trained silversmith uses recycled silver and gold, rather than new.

There is enough silver and gold mined to last for eternity. Avoiding mining helps to preserve our planet, avoids toxic dynamite harming wildlife, and avoids harming habitats abroad.

You can send single earrings, broken chains and unwanted watches or bank notes freepost to Animal Free Research UK or War Paws (the metal is sold to raise funds).

How to care and clean jewellery

Keep it in pouches and remove before applying lotion or perfume, and take off before showering, swimming or in saunas. To clean, soak in lukewarm water with mild liquid soap, rinse well and dry with a soft clean cloth.

A recycled Promise Ring (nice for weddings too!)

recycled silver promise ring

This recycled promise ring is adorned with sparkling CZ stones (zirconium dioxide are ‘manmade diamonds’ to avoid mining). Makes a lovely affordable wedding ring.
